All Medi-Cal recipients will have their eligibility reviewed once per year. Everyone's date is different.

Where do I start to maintain Medi-Cal health coverage?

Update or verify your contact information.

  • Call the Department of Public Social Services (DPSS) at 1-888-999-7671
  • Log into your account or create an account at

Is there any paperwork I need to complete?

Your renewal packet will arrive by mail in a yellow envelope. Prepare income, household, and address details along with supporting documentation. You can complete the form online, by mail, or over the phone.

  • The quickest and easiest way to complete your renewal is online through BenefitsCal. You must have the account email address and the case number to complete the form.
  • Follow the instructions on the renewal form. The form will be pre-filled with any information Medi-Cal has available.
  • Update any information that is wrong or has changed directly on the form.
  • You must sign and date the form.
  • Call the Medi-Cal redetermination hotline: 1-888-999-7671
  • Try calling first thing in the morning for possible shorter wait times.

What if I didn’t turn in my form or missed my deadline?

Your local Medi-Cal office will mail you a letter (Notice of Action) to inform you if you didn't turn in your renewal form or are missing information.

Less than 90 days
  • If it is less than 90 days from the date on the letter, send your renewal form or missing information as soon as possible.
More than 90 days

What if my income has changed or I’m over the income limit?

You may be eligible for financial help for a private health plan through Covered California. Covered California will enroll you in a health plan with many of the same benefits at the best value for the lowest cost. Many Covered California enrollees pay $10 or less per month for health insurance, and some have coverage at no charge. 

  • Covered California will mail you an envelope that says, “Stay Covered with Covered California.” If you receive a notice asking to confirm your plan, respond immediately. You will have the option to change your plan or cancel. Visit or call Covered California’s service center at 1-800-300-1506 to learn more.

How will I know if my Medi-Cal coverage was renewed?

If your local Medi-Cal office has all your information and you qualify, they will mail you a letter confirming your Medi-Cal coverage is renewed. You don't need to do anything. You and your family can continue to use your Medi-Cal coverage for your health needs.
